Materials

1/8 ply or basswood
aquadhere or tacky glue
acrylic paint and paint brush
fine dowel or toothpick

Cut 2 pieces of ply together in rabbit shape as shown.

Cut 2 seat pieces. (each piece is 1 1/8" by 3/4")

Dowel or toothpick will be 1 1/8" long

Make an indent with a small drill where shown, ready for dowel or toothpick. Do not drill right through.

Glue seat pieces together as shown and put aside to dry.

Undercoat the rabbit pieces and mark seat position where shown.

Using the pattern supplied, transfer the design on to each rabbit shape, remembering to reverse for one side.

Then using the suggested colors, paint each section to suit. An extra coat will probably be desirable.

When the base colors are dry, you can add the details, following the pattern setup.

Suggusted colors:

Rabbit : Fawn (or color of your choice)
Background: med/light green with darker green fine detail


Eyes: black

Nose: whiskers - outline sahding: brown earth (Jo Sonya or equivalent)

Add white paws, also underline chin, tummy, tail and inside ears.

Rocker can be put together before paintng if wished.

To construct:
Place one side face down and glue seat in position.
Next, with glue on edge of seat, position carefully to line up with marks, dab glue on dowel ends and place between sides, checking that position is correct. Set aside to dry.
The insides are painted two coats of white. Later the whole rocker can be srpayed with crystal clear to give a nice sheen finish.

Materials

1/8 ply or basswood
Aquadhere
Toothpick or fine dowel
Acrylic paint and paintbrush

Cut 2 pieces of ply together in duck shape as shown.

On insides, mark where the seat will go as shown. Also make an indent with a small drill ready for dowel or toothpick.

Do not drill right through.

Sand and paint yellow or color of your choice on face sides.

Paint inside white.

Cut seat pieces and glue together as shown. Place aside to set.

When dry, place one side face down and glue seat in position.

After putting rocker together and set aside to dry -----------

Lightly draw with pencil where eye and beak will go.

Now paint or dry brush some white on cheek and front tummy and wing to create a little 3rd dimension.

Using a suitable color, wet your brush , side load and create a shading to show face edge , wing shape and impression of feathers at end of wing and tail. Paint the beak , then carefully outline with a fine line of brown.

Place a mark to indicate the nostril and beak line.

Paint a fine line to indicate the eye and add the pupil. Place a small white dot on the pupil to show highlight.

The insides of the rocker are painted 2 coats of white.

Later the whole rocker can be sprayed with crystal clear to give a nice sheen to finish.

Next, with glue on the edge of the seat, position carefully to line up marks, dab glue on dowel ends and place between sides, checking that the position is correct.

When the other side is in place, set aside to dry.

This rocker is suitable for dolls 2" high.

Child's Painted Rocking Horse and Hobby Horse

Child's Painted Rocking Horse

1. Trace the downloaded side and head pieces to make a pattern to cut out the wood pieces. Be sure to mark the black circle on the head.
2. Cut out the traced side pattern pieces, head, seat, and 2 end pieces from the appropriate size and type of woods - See supply list.
3. Drill a hole on the head at the black circle marked on one side of each head picture.
4. Lightly spray the sheet with the art work that you run off from your printer with decoupage spray
5. Glue the end pieces to each end of the seat. See Illustration
6. Glue the head to one end of the seat
7. Paint all surfaces of the horse that will not be covered with paper and the dowel. I used Americana Baby Blue, and Mint Julep Green. You will need to adjust the color because the printer color never comes out the same.
8. Glue the printed side 1 and side 2 each to one of the wooden side pieces.
9. Glue one printed horse head to each side of the wooden head.
10. Glue one side pieces to each side if the seat and end pieces.
11. Push the dowel through the hole and glue.
12. When everything is dry and the glue set, spray the horse with two or three coats of decoupage spray. The rub gently with 4/0 steel wool.
13. Pull the Bunka so it is unraveled. Put glue on the edge of the horse head and using a tooth pick push loops of the Bunka into the glue to make the mane. Do the same for the forelock.

14. Make 5 or 6 1" loops around your finger and glue them together at one end. Turn the glued end under and glue this to the end of the seat to make the tail. Cut the ends See illustration
15. Make a small bow from silk ribbon and glue it above the tail.

Child's Hobby Horse

1. Cut horses head from 1/8" basswood
2. Drill a hole on the head at the black circle marked on one side of each head picture
3. Drill a hole in the center of the bottom edge of the head. Glue and insert the toothpick.
4. Lightly spray the artwork with decoupage spray
5. Paint the edge of the wooden head, the stick
6. Glue one printed head piece to each side of the wooden head
7. Insert the dowel handle.
8. Twist gold thread around the stick as shown in the picture.
9. Pull the Bunka so it is unraveled. Put glue on the edge of the horse head and using a tooth pick push loops of the Bunka into the glue to make the mane. Do the same for the forelock

10. Make a small silk bow and glue it under the neck.
